On 9 June, EUPATI Austria teamed up with the Austrian Medicines Regulator (AGES) to organise a half-day conference for patients seeking to learn more about medicines regulation. Please visit the EUPATI Austria Facebook page to see a copy of the programme and photographs from the event.
On 14 June, 17 country representatives gathered in Berlin for a EUPATI National Platform Workshop. Items on the agenda included the future of the EUPATI course at the national level, the sustainability of ENPs after January 2017, and activities planned to disseminate the EUPATI Toolbox between July-December 2016.
On 14 June, Italian EUPATI Trainee Paola Kruger gave an interview following an Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA) event on sustainable innovation during which she represented EUPATI Italy. At the event, Paola joined a distinguished panel of health experts including the Minister of Health, the Director General of AIFA, the President of Farmaindustria, the Coordinator for the Mario Negri Research Institute and the President of the Italian Pharmacists Association. On 16 June, EUPATI Portugal hosted an inaugural meeting to officially establish a partnership between patient (EUPATI Fellows & Trainees), academic (University of Aveiro, University of Lisbon), and industry (APIFARMA) representatives. EUPATI Portugal will focus on growing a wider network of national partners. They will also reach out to government officials, regulators and healthcare professionals. They will also source funds to support a translation of the EUPATI Toolbox into Portuguese.
On 21 June, EUPATI Ireland delivered two workshops as part of the Summer School on Public and Patient Involvement, organised by the Health Research Institute, University of Limerick. Three EUPATI Trainees (Caitriona Dunne, Rachel Lynch and Damien Peelo) facilitated discussions. Topics discussed were related to patient-reported outcomes, informed consent and health technology assessments. Tools from the EUPATI Toolbox were used to introduce patient, community and researcher participants to the three topics.
On 24 June, EUPATI Ireland and another EUPATI Fellow, Noirin O’Neill presented the patient education journey and EUPATI at the CROI Heart Failure Patient Academy Conference in Galway.
On 24 June, EUPATI UK teamed up with ABPI to organise the 2nd International Conference focusing on patients, academia and industry joining forces to deliver patient-centered medicines research and development. UK EUPATI Trainees, Jill Prawer, Carole Hagan, Maria Piggins, Angela Stringer and Gillian Ferguson presented their patient education experience and their hopes for future patient involvement across several plenary sessions.
